1. Carotenoids, tocochromanols and chlorophylls in sea buckthorn berries (Hippophae rhamnoides) and Rose Hips (Rosa sp.) : variation during ripening, and among cultivars/species and years

2. Approaches for mitigating the environmental impact of greenhouse horticulture
Sammanfattning : Greenhouse horticulture creates environmental issues of different kinds. Use of energy for heating and lighting and pollution by pesticides and nutrients are major known problems, but impacts on the landscape and light emissions from supplementary lighting have also attracted attention. 3. Variables limiting efficacy of slow filters integrated into closed hydroponic growing systems
Sammanfattning : For sustainable production of greenhouse vegetables and ornamentals, losses of water and nutrients must be avoided. Closed hydroponic systems are highly efficient in their use of water and nutrients, produce high yields and minimise the needs for soil sterilization. LÄS MER
4. Plant-based biogas production for improved nutrient management of beetroot in stockless organic farming
Sammanfattning : Transition from a nutrient management system based on green manure (GrM system) to one based on biodigested plant material produced within the crop rotation (BG system) was investigated in crop sequences including clover-grass, beetroot and cereals. The overall hypothesis was that transition would improve nitrogen (N) availability. LÄS MER
5. Irrigation and horticultural practices in ornamental greenhouse production : implementation of scientific knowledge into irrigation practices and methods
Sammanfattning : Irrigation in greenhouse pot plant production is traditionally managed using a tactile perceptual method. This method, in this thesis called ‘the golden grip’, is based on the grower’s experiential knowledge where water requirement is determined by combining the estimated weight of the pot (both growing medium and plant) with factors such as plant age, developmental stage and size in combination with prevailing and future climate conditions.
