  1. 1. Mitochondrial DNA in Sensitive Forensic Analysis

    Författare :Martina Nilsson; Marie Allen; Ulf Gyllensten; Antti Sajantila; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Genetics; Forensic genetics; Mitochondrial DNA; HVI HVII; Nuclear DNA; Quantification; Real-time PCR; Immobilised SSO probe assay; Pyrosequencing; Discrimination power; Coding region; Mixtures; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic profiling is commonly performed on the autosomes using multiple DNA markers. Although routine forensic DNA analysis is robust and based on reliable technologies, samples with degraded or limited amounts of DNA often fail. In these cases, the analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can be very valuable due to the high copy number per cell. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Application of Mitochondrial DNA Analysis in Contemporary and Historical Samples

    Författare :Maria Lembring; Marie Allen; Niels Morling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Forensic genetics; Mitochondrial DNA; HVI HVII; Population database; Haplotype; Haplogroup; Ancient DNA; Historical DNA samples; skeletal remains; Vasa museum; Medieval samples; Copernicus; Göring; Genetik; Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The mitochondrion is a tiny organelle that is the power supplier of the cell and vital to the functioning of the body organs. Additionally it contains a small circular genome of about 16 kb, present in many copies which makes the mitochondrial DNA more viable than nuclear DNA. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of New Technologies for Forensic DNA Analysis

    Författare :Anna-Maria Divne; Marie Allen; Joakim Lundeberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; STR; SNP; SIDS; mtDNA; HVI HVII SSOP linear array; minisequencing; tag arrays; Pyrosequencing; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : DNA samples from crime scenes or mass disasters are often limited and degraded which limits the possibility of successful traditional STR analysis. Moreover, there is a need to decrease the turnaround time in criminal investigations. LÄS MER
