  1. 1. Childhood Thyroid and Islet Autoimmunity. Immunogenetics, Risk Factors and Prediction

    Författare :Berglind Jonsdottir; Pediatrisk endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :thyroid autoantibodies; Islet autoantibodies; Childhood; HLA-DQ genotypes; type 1 diabetes; Autoimmune thyroid disease; Prediction; Screening; Rsik factors;

  2. 2. The importance of immunological, genetic and clinical factors for beta cell function in childhood diabetes

    Författare :Eva Örtqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type I diabetes; HLA-DQ; GAD65Ab; 1A-2Ab; ICA; GAD65 epitopeC-peptide; clinical remission; beta cell rest; diazoxide.;

    Sammanfattning : Type I diabetes is caused by environmentally initiated, progressive autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells in genetically susceptible individuals, which results in insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia. At diagnosis, about 10-20 % of beta cells remain, but after insulin therapy is started, a period with regained secretive capacity follows. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Novel cardiovascular risk factors in childhood

    Författare :Michal Odermarsky; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; environmental tobacco smoke; vascular function; infection; type 1 diabetes; HLA;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) have a 2 to 3-fold increased risk for cardiovascular disease compared to non-diabetic subjects. Exposure to a broad panel of risk factors in childhood may cause vascular damage with potentially long-term consequences for cardiovascular morbidity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular mechanisms of HLA associations with myasthenia gravis

    Författare :Peter Hjelmström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myasthenia gravis; MHC; HLA; T cell receptor; acetylcholine receptor; TNF-a; thymus complex disease trait; autoimmunity; molecular modelling; stratification; DNA polymorphisms;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease characterised by muscle weakness due to an autoimmune attack against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). MG has a complex pattern of inheritance and several genetic and environmental factors are important in conferring susceptibility to the disease. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immunogenetics of Childhood Type 1 Diabetes in Immigrant Patients in Sweden. Migration Studies on Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Ahmed Delli; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes; Childhood; Human Leukocyte Antigen HLA ; Islet autoantibodies; Zinc Transporter 8 ZnT8 ; Islet antigen IA2- ; Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase 65 GAD65; Insulin; Migration.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examined whether the offspring of immigrants (non-Swedes) to Sweden are at increased risk of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when they are born or live in Sweden. It also evaluated if their T1D and T2D-related genes differed from Swedish patients and whether this genetic heritage determined the types and existence of islet autoantibodies at time of diagnosis and affected the classification of diabetes.
