1. Singular Ginzburg-Landau Vortices
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study the critical Ginzburg-Landau action, defined on fields in the plane which are allowed to have a finite number of singularities. We show that a topological invariant, the degree, can be defined under the assumption of finite action only. LÄS MER
2. On the Finite Element Method for the Time-Dependent Ginzburg-Landau Equations
Sammanfattning : This thesis is primarily concerned with various issues regarding finite element approximation of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations. The time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations is a macroscopic, phenomenological model of superconductivity, consisting of a system of nonlinear, parabolic partial differential equations. LÄS MER
3. From Macroscopic to Microscopic Dynamics of Superconducting Cavities
Sammanfattning : Superconducting (SC) radio frequency (RF) cavities are at the heart of many large-scale particle accelerators such as the European Spallation Source (ESS), the X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL), the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS)-II and the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC). The SC cavities are essentially resonant structures with very high intrinsic quality factors (Q0) of the order of 1010. LÄS MER
4. Multicomponent superconductivity : Vortex matter and phase transitions
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is vortex-physics in multi component Ginzburg- Landau models. These models describe a newly discovered class of super- conductors with multiple superconducting gaps, and possess many properties that set them apart from single component models. LÄS MER
5. On the Growth of Bone through Stress Driven Diffusion and Bone Generation Processes
Sammanfattning : In order to prevent or modify bone degeneration due to rest or due to diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. LÄS MER
