1. Mid-infrared photonic devices for on-chip optical gas sensing
Sammanfattning : Gas detection is crucial in a wide range of fields and applications, such as safety and process control in the industry, atmospheric sciences, and breath diagnostics. Optical gas sensing offers some key advantages, compared to other sensing methods such as electrochemical and semiconductor sensing: high specificity, fast response, and minimal drift. LÄS MER
2. Optical remote sensing of industrial gas emission fluxes
Sammanfattning : Mobile optical remote sensing techniques offer promising possibilities to quantify and geographically attribute local industrial gaseous emissions to the atmosphere. Studies have repeatedly shown that such emissions are often poorly understood, underestimated, and thereby not properly accounted for in emission inventories and regional atmospheric chemistry models, especially for emissions of VOCs. 3. Studies of Volcanic Plumes with Spectroscopic Remote Sensing Techniques
Sammanfattning : Volcanism is a widespread phenomenon on Earth and other planetary bodies. Terrestrial volcanoes are shallow manifestations of deep and complex mechanisms of heat and mass transport and play an important role in the formation and change of the atmosphere and the natural landscape. 4. Integration of graphene into MEMS and NEMS for sensing applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel approach to integrate chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene into silicon micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) to fabricate different graphene based MEMS/NEMS structures and explore mechanical properties of graphene as well as their applications such as acceleration sensing, humidity sensing and CO2 sensing. The thesis also presents a novel method of characterization of CVD graphene grain boundary based defects. LÄS MER
5. Spatially resolved gas sensing
Sammanfattning : By using a Scanning Light Pulse Technique (SLPT) the gas response of catalytic Metal-Insulator semiconductor (MIS) devices can be spatially resolved. The application of SLPT to gas sensitive MIS devices can be divided into two areas. LÄS MER
