1. Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Monolithic Integrated Circuits in CMOS and GaAs-mHEMT Technologies
Sammanfattning : The objective of this work has been to design and characterize microwave and millimeter-wave components and circuits within a 90 nm Si-CMOS process and a 100 nm GaAs-mHEMT process. The work is divided in two parts depending on the technology. LÄS MER
2. Cryogenic Ultra-Low Noise InP High Electron Mobility Transistors
Sammanfattning : Indium phosphide high electron mobility transistors (InP HEMTs), are today the best transistors for cryogenic low noise amplifiers at microwave frequencies. Record noise temperatures below 2 K using InP HEMT equipped cryogenic low noise amplifiers (LNAs) were demonstrated already a decade ago. LÄS MER
3. High-efficiency Power Amplification Techniques for Wireless Transmitters
Sammanfattning : The low efficiency of existing power amplifiers (PAs) is causing excessive energy consumption in wireless systems. Improving the PA efficiency is therefore of great environmental and economical importance. LÄS MER
4. Millimeter and Sub-Millimeter Wave Integrated Active Frequency Down-Converters
Sammanfattning : In recent years, the increasing amount of data transmission, the need for automotiveradars, and standoff imaging for security applications are the main factors that accelerateresearch in the millimeter and sub-millimeter wave frequency ranges. The semiconductorindustries have continuously developed their processes, which have opened upopportunities for manufacturing monolithically integrated circuits up to a few hundredGHz, based on transistor technologies. 5. Reconfigurable and Wideband Receiver Components for System-on-Chip Millimetre-Wave Radiometer Front-Ends
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents solutions and studies related to the design of reconfigurable and wideband receiver circuits for system-on-chip (SoC) radiometer front-ends within the millimetre-wave (mm-wave) range. Whereas many of today’s mm-wave front-ends are bulky and costly due to having discrete RF components, single-chip receiver modules could potentially result in a wider use for emerging applications such as wireless communication, short range radar and passive imaging security sensors if realised with adequate performances and at a lower cost.
