1. Immunological Studies using Human and Canine Model Disorders
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis focus on human and canine models for autoimmune disease, with the main aim to gain new knowledge about disease mechanisms and to further evaluate the dog as a model for autoimmune disease. Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome type 1 (APS-1) is a hereditary human multiorgan disease caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene. LÄS MER
2. Determination of the Critical Moisture Level for Mould Growth on Building Materials
Sammanfattning : The susceptibility to mould growth varies between building materials. The factors that most affect mould growth, the relative humidity (RH) and temperature also vary in different parts of buildings. One way of preventing the growth of mould in buildings is therefore to choose building materials that can withstand the expected conditions. LÄS MER
3. Secondary metabolites from the saprotrophic fungus Granulobasidium vellereum
Sammanfattning : The production of secondary metabolites by the saprotrophic fungus Granulobasidium vellereum was investigated. G. vellereum is a wood decomposing basidiomycete fungus that arrives at dead trunks of fallen hard wood trees at a later stage of the decomposition process and hence need to outcompete the organisms already colonizing the site. 4. Neurospora tetrasperma from Natural Populations : Toward the Population Genomics of a Model Fungus
Sammanfattning : The study of DNA sequence variation is a powerful approach to study genome evolution, and to reconstruct evolutionary histories of species. In this thesis, I have studied genetic variation in the fungus Neurospora tetrasperma and other closely related Neurospora species. I have focused on N. LÄS MER
5. Infection biology of the plant pathogenic fungus Bipolaris sorokiniana
Sammanfattning : Bipolaris sorokiniana is a fungal pathogen causing severe disease mainly in wheat and barley worldwide. In this thesis two aspects of the infection process were investigated: the adhesion mechanism of the fungus and the role of the non-host specific phytotoxin prehelminthosporol (PHL) in the disease. Adhesion of B. LÄS MER
