  1. 1. Stereotactic imaging in functional neurosurgery

    Författare :Hidehiro Hirabayashi; Patric Blomstedt; Takaomi Taira; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Deep brain stimulation; pallidotomy; thalamotomy; Parkinson s disease; essential tremor; CT; MRI; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The birth of stereotactic functional neurosurgery in 1947 was to a great extent dependent on the development of ventriculography. The last decades have witnessed a renaissance of functional stereotactic neurosurgery in the treatment of patients with movement disorders. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On optical methods for intracerebral measurements during stereotactic and functional neurosurgery : Experimental studies

    Författare :Johan Antonsson; Karin Wårdell; Lars-Erik Augustinsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring; Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy; Functional and stereotactic neurosurgery; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Radio frequency (RF) lesioning and deep brain stimulation (DBS) are the two prevailing surgical treatments for movement disorders within the field of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. For RF-lesioning, a small volume of brain tissue is coagulated and knowledge of the lesion size and growth is of great importance for the safety and outcome of the procedure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stereotactic functional procedures in the treatment of essential tremor

    Författare :Ulrika Sandvik; Patric Blomstedt; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Stig Rehncrona; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Essential Tremor; Stereotactic Functional Neurosurgery; Deep Brain Stimulation; Posterior Subthalamic Area; Thalamotomy; Zona incerta; caudal Zona incerta; Quality of Life; Vim; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Essential tremor (ET) is the most common movement disorder. In cases resistant to pharmacological treatment, functional stereotactic neurosurgery can be an alternative. Lesional surgery has largely been replaced by deep brain stimulation (DBS). The current target of choice is the ventrolateral thalamus (Vim). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Analysis of deep brain stimulation and ablative lesions in surgical treatment of movement disorders : with emphasis on safety aspects

    Författare :Patric Blomstedt; Bengt Linderoth; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; deep brain stimulation; pallidotomy; thalamotomy; complications; Parkinson s disease; essential tremor; Clinical Neurophysiology; klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background The last decade has witnessed a renaissance of functional stereotactic neurosurgery in the treatment of patients with movement disorders, especially advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD), essential tremor (ET) and dystonia. Ablative lesions such as thalamotomy and pallidotomy have been gradually replaced by the technique of chronic deep brain stimulation (DBS) applied to targets in the basal ganglia and thalamus, and assumed to be more lenient to the brain than stereotactic radiofrequency lesions.
