  1. 1. The Biodiversity of Hydrogenases in Frankia : Characterization, regulation and phylogeny

    Författare :Melakeselam Leul Zerihun; Anita Sellstedt; Kornel Kovács; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Frankia; immunoblotting; gene expression; uptake hydrogenase; hydrogen-evolving hydrogenase; nickel; phylogeny; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : All the eighteen Frankia strains isolated from ten different actinorhizal host plants showed uptake hydrogenase activity. The activity of this enzyme is further increased by addition of nickel. Nickel also enhanced the degree of hydrogenase transfer into the membranes of Frankia, indicating the role of this metal in the processing of this enzyme. LÄS MER

  2. 2. To be together or not to be together : Ca. 100 million years of evolutionary history of the earliest divergent Frankia clade

    Författare :Fede Berckx; Katharina Pawlowski; Barbara Reinhold-Hurek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; root nodule symbiosis; Frankia; actinorhizal symbiosis; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Root nodule symbiosis evolved ca. 100 Mya between a nitrogen-fixing bacterium and the common ancestor to the Fabales, Fagales, Rosales, and Cucurbitales plant orders. Over time the majority of the lineages derived from this ancestor lost their symbiotic capability. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Endosymbiosis of Frankia cluster-2

    Författare :Fede Berckx; Katharina Pawlowski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; root nodule endosymbiosis; Frankia; Datisca glomerata; nitrogen fixation; actinorhizal; peptidoglycan; RT-qPCR;

    Sammanfattning : Actinobacteria of the genus Frankia engage in root endosymbiosis with actinorhizal plants belonging to the Fagales, Cucurbitales and Rosales. The genus Frankia consists of four different clades. Strains belonging to cluster-1, -2, and -3 exhibit host-specificity which plants they can nodulate, while cluster-4 strains do not engage in symbiosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The actinorhizal plant Datisca glomerata : interpreting its symbiotic adaptations by omics-based comparisons with model and non-model organisms

    Författare :Marco Salgado; Katharina Pawlowski; Daniel Lundin; Rene Geurts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Root nodule symbiosis; nitrogen fixation; actinorhizal; Datisca glomer-ata; Frankia; nodule development; defensin; antimicrobial; carboxylate transporter; phylogenomics; transcriptomics; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen is the element that most often limits plant growth and development. Common agricultural practices rely on the application of large quantities of industrially-produced nitrogen fertilizer, which poses a worldwide environmental threat. Sustainable agriculture encourages the use of biologically fixed nitrogen. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of forest fertilization on soil microorganisms

    Författare :Kristina Arnebrant; Biologibiblioteket; []
