11. Interaction of Hurricanes and Natural Coastal Features: Implications for Storm Damage Reduction
Sammanfattning : It is generally acknowledged that wetlands and barrier islands can reduce surge and waves. However, while a general qualitative understanding of these interactions is available in the scientific literature, quantification of these interactions is lacking and has previously been based on limited data of relatively poor quality. 12. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 13. Watermarks : Urban Flooding and Memoryscape in Argentina
Sammanfattning : The relationship between social experience and action in the context of recurrent disasters is often thought of in terms of adaptation. This study problematises this assumption from an anthropological perspective by analysing the memoryscape that mediates past experiences of disasters. LÄS MER
14. Just or Unjust : Assessment of rainfall-related flood damage in a Swedish context
Sammanfattning : Climate change has led to an increase in heavy summer rainfalls, and climate projections for Sweden indicate that there will be more sudden rainfall in the future. While the exact locations and time for this rainfall are unknown, it is known that there will be damages to buildings, cars, and people when the rainfall occurs. LÄS MER
15. Efficient Flooding Protocols and Energy Models for Wireless Sensor Networks
Sammanfattning : Wireless sensor networks are emerging from the mobile ad hoc network concept and as such they share many similarities. However, it is not the similarities that differentiates sensor networks from their ad hoc counterparts, it is the differences. One of the most important difference is that they should operate unattended for long periods of time. LÄS MER
