  1. 1. Hips at risk osteoporosis and prevention of hip fractures

    Författare :Anna Ekman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Bone Densitometry; external hip protectors; hip fracture; mortality risk; nursing home residents; osteoporosis; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Hip fractures are the most serious consequence of osteoporosis, and are one important cause of morbidity and mortality among the elderly. Prophylactic treatment for hip fractures are now available. Early detection of individuals with increased risk for hip fractures is therefor of great interest. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tibial shaft fractures : An epidemiological and clinical study

    Författare :Abbas Emami; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Tibial fractures; epidemiology; external fixation; infected nonunions; ultrasoundstimulation; serum bone markers; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The epidemiological features of tibial shaft fractures were studied in Uppsala during two 5-year periods. The incidence decreased in men below 20 years of age in the late 1980's compared with the early 1970's (mostly due to a reduction of fractures sustained in traffic accidents), while the incidence increased in women over 80. 3. 3. Chondrocytes Differentiation- Biological and Biomaterial Perspectives

    Författare :Hanna Stenhamre; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; scaffold.; chondrocyte implantation; cartilage tissue engineering; dedifferentiation; redifferentiation;

    Sammanfattning : Articular cartilage is an avascular tissue and once injured it does not heal spontaneously. A successful tissue engineering approach for cartilage reconstruction is autolougus chondrocyte implantation (ACI). LÄS MER

  4. 4. On late complications with HA coated hip arthroplasties

    Författare :Magne Røkkum; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hip arthroplasty; hydroxyapatite; wear; osteolysis; loosening; clinical; radiological and histological examination;

    Sammanfattning : 100 hips in 86 patients were operated with a total hip arthroplasty entirely coated with a 155±35 µm thick HA coating, and included in a clinical and radiological follow-up study. The female/male ratio was 75/25, and the mean age was 56 years (32-73). Early clinical results were excellent, especially pain relief. No thigh pain was found. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the aetiology of aseptic loosening in joint arthroplasties, and routes to improved cemented fixation

    Författare :Mikael Sundfeldt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee prosthesis; aseptic loosening; polyethylene particles; endotoxin; bone cement; sodium fluoride;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Aseptic loosening is the most common single cause for revisions in major joint arthroplasties worldwide. Different theories for aseptic loosening have been discussed during the last two decades. There is a need for improving fixation in both cemented and uncemented implants. LÄS MER
