12. Fluorescence fluctuation studies of biomolecular interactions in solutions, biomembranes and live cells
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging have a very broad spectrum of applicationswithin the life sciences, in particular for detection and characterization ofbiomolecular dynamics and interactions in different environments. This thesis comprisesprojects that strive to further expand the information content extracted fromthe detected fluorescence, leading to sensitive readout parameters for studies ofbiomolecular dynamics and interactions. 13. Exciton coupling and energy transfer in perylene-based systems
Sammanfattning : Understanding the nature of photoinduced processes in organic molecules is essential for the design and synthesis of compounds with desired photochemical properties. This dissertation aims for gaining knowledge and mechanistic understanding of energy transfer in perylene-based systems. LÄS MER
14. First As Probe, Then As Function - Fluorescence in Bio-inspired Nanotechnology
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I demonstrate how fluorescence can be used in the context of bio-inspired nanotechnology, both as an indirect probe and as a function in itself. By combining principles and molecules from three different bio-molecular systems, DNA, bacterial light-harvesting complexes and cell membranes, I have constructed nano- and microscale systems for long-range excitation energy transfer, light-harvesting and reaction control. 15. Amyloid Fibril Formation - Dye Detection and Effects of Lipids
Sammanfattning : Amyloid fibrils are long fibrillar homopolymers of self-assembled proteins. They can be formed by essentially any polypeptide, but are of particular interest because of their occurrence in several incurable and debilitating human diseases, e.g. Alzheimer’s disease (AD). LÄS MER
