1. Extremum Seeking Control : Stability, Accuracy, and Applications
Sammanfattning : In many applications, there is a variable that indicates the overall performance and that must be maximized, such as the output of a hydro power turbine or a mineral processing plant, or that must be minimized, such as CO2 emissions or the consumption of resources. Extremization of this variable (maximization or minimization) through adjusting the influencing manipulated variables is occasionally required without prior knowledge of the optimal values of the manipulated variables or of the optimized variable. 2. Probing Control : Analysis and Design with Application to Fed-Batch Bioreactors
Sammanfattning : In most control problems the objective is to control the output at a desired value in spite of disturbances. In some cases, the best setpoint is not known a priori and it should be found online to optimize the process performance. This thesis examines a probing strategy that can be applied for this class of problems. LÄS MER
3. Modelling, analysis and experimentation of a simple feedback scheme for error correction control
Sammanfattning : Data networks are an important part in an increasing number of applications with real-time and reliability requirements. To meet these demands a variety of approaches have been proposed. Forward error correction, which adds redundancy to the communicated data, is one of them. LÄS MER
4. Torque based combustion phasing control
Sammanfattning : Due to environmental aspects and emission legislations the automotive industry is striving towards more efficient combustion engines. Many engine control systems in production today are based on look-up tables which are calibrated for different operating conditions. LÄS MER
5. Extremum-Seeking Control of Industrial-Scale Fermentation Processes
Sammanfattning : The work presented here is based on two papers, both pertaining to perturbation-based control strategies in industrial fed-batch fermentation processes. The first paper describes a new control strategy for avoiding overflow metabolism in the exponential growth phase of a fermentation, based on analysis of the frequency spectrum of the dissolved oxygen measurement following a periodic perturbation in the feed rate.
