1. Degradation Pathways of Dimethylmercury in Natural Waters
Sammanfattning : Mercury (Hg) is a naturally occurring toxic trace metal whose release into the environment has been (and still is) exacerbated by human activities. The bioavailability of Hg is tied to its chemical speciation, with monomethylmercury (MMHg) being the primary form of Hg that bioaccumulates and biomagnifies. LÄS MER
2. On the atmospheric transport pathways of heat into the Arctic in winter and spring
Sammanfattning : The atmospheric meridional energy transport is an important component in the global climate system, as it transports moisture and heat from the midlatitudes into the Arctic, balancing the regional energy loss to space. Narrow and intense injections of warm and moist air, so-called warm-air intrusions, have a large local imprint on the surface through various processes acting on different scales, such as cloud formation, turbulent fluxes and atmospheric large-scale circulation. 3. Climate Change and Residential Energy Use in Europe : Assessing Future Energy Demands and Renewable Generation Potentials
Sammanfattning : In recent years, climate change and the corresponding expected extreme weather conditions have been widelyrecognized as potential problems. The construction industry is taking various actions to achieve sustainabledevelopment, implement energy conservation strategies, and provide climate change mitigation. LÄS MER
4. The role of psychological stress in cervical and prostate carcinogenesis
Sammanfattning : Psychological stress is common in everyday life, and has been well recognized as one of the major contributors to many mental and physical illnesses, such as mental disorders and cardiovascular diseases. The association between psychological stress and carcinogenesis remains largely inconclusive to date, although possible biological mechanisms, i. LÄS MER
5. Estrogen actions in the growth plate cartilage
Sammanfattning : Estrogens may influence bone growth locally or systemically via the estrogen receptors alpha (ERα), beta (ERβ) and G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER-1). In Paper I, our study showed that the treatment of ovariectomized C57BL/6 mice with a selective ERα agonist 1,3,5-tris(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4-propyl-1H-pyrazole (PPT) reduced growth plate height and hypertrophic zone height suggesting that the effect was induced via ERα.
