  1. 1. Nonparametric Statistical Inference for Entropy-type Functionals

    Författare :David Källberg; Oleg Seleznjev; Timo Koski; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; entropy estimation; Rényi entropy; divergence estimation; quadratic density functional; U-statistics; consistency; asymptotic normality; Poisson convergence; stationary m-dependent sequence; inter-point distances; entropy maximizing distribution; two-sample problem; approximate matching; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we study statistical inference for entropy, divergence, and related functionals of one or two probability distributions. Asymptotic properties of particular nonparametric estimators of such functionals are investigated. We consider estimation from both independent and dependent observations. LÄS MER

    Författare :Johan Wallerstein; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemical exchange; Conformational entropy; Entropy; Galectin-3; Isothermal Titration Calorimetry; ITC; Model-free formalism; Molecular recognition; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance; NMR; PGB1; Protein dynamics; Protein–ligand interactions; Proton-transfer reactions; Spin relaxation; Viscosity; Chemical exchange; Conformational entropy; Entropy; Galectin-3; Isothermal Titration Calorimetry; ITC; Model-free formalism; Molecular recognition; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance; NMR; PGB1; Protein dynamics; Protein–ligand interactions; Proton-transfer reactions; Spin relaxation; Viscosity;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge of dynamics in protein is very important in the description of protein function and molecular recognition. The thesis investigates protein dynamics on time-scales from milli- to sub-nanosecond, with focus on the latter, using NMR spin relaxation experiments on two proteins, the 138-residue carbohydrate recognition domain of galectin-3 (Gal3C) and the 56-residue B1 domain of bacterial protein G (PGB1). 3. 3. Microkinetic Modeling of Nanoparticle Catalysis using Density Functional Theory

    Författare :Mikkel Jørgensen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density Functional Theory; Methane oxidation; Mean-field approximation; Microkinetic modeling; Kinetic Monte Carlo; Nanoparticles; Entropy; CO oxidation; Catalysis;

    Sammanfattning : Heterogeneous catalysis is vitally important to modern society, and one path towardsrational catalyst design is through atomistic scale understanding. The atomistic scalecan be linked to macroscopic observables by microkinetic models based on first-principlescalculations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Recovery of Kraft Black Liquor - Alternative Processes and System Analysis

    Författare :Tobias Richards; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; shrinking-core; entropy; Kraft black liquor; equilibrium; thermodynamic efficiency; direct causticization;

    Sammanfattning : Besides the conventional recovery process, there are several possible processes whereby the cooking chemicals in kraft black liquor can be recovered. A part of one of the possible processes, direct causticization using titanate, has been studied in detail. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Spatially Adaptive Analysis and Segmentation of Polarimetric SAR Data

    Författare :Wei Wang; Yifang Ban; Jianwei Wan; Xiaoxiang Zhu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polarimetric SAR; Spatially adaptive; Edge detection; Spherically invariant random vector SIRV ; Superpixel; Simple linear iterative clustering SLIC ; Entropy rate; Segmentation;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) has been one of the most important instruments for earth observation, and is increasingly used in various remote sensing applications. Statistical modelling and scattering analysis are two main ways for PolSAR data interpretation, and have been intensively investigated in the past two decades. LÄS MER
