21. lntramuscular pressure in the lower leg - Studies on chronic exertional compartment syndrome and effects of external compression
Sammanfattning : This thesis on intramuscular pressure (IMP) in the lower leg is concerned with two topics. The first of these is external compression; more specifically, the effect of compression stockings (CS). There are conflicting data on how compression garments such as CS affect IMP and muscle function during activity. LÄS MER
22. CSF biomarkers in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus- Diagnostics and pathophysiology
Sammanfattning : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a disease of the elderly with enlarged ventricles despite a normal CSF pressure. Clinically, iNPH presents with gait- and balance disturbances, cognitive decline and incontinence. As the symptoms are reversed by shunt surgery, precise diagnostics is of essence. LÄS MER
23. On the pathophysiology of idiopathic adult hydrosephalus syndrome : energy metabolism, protein patterns, and intracranial pressure
Sammanfattning : The symptoms in Idiopathic Adult Hydrocephalus Syndrome (IAHS) – gait disturbance, incontinence, and cognitive deficit – correlate anatomically to neuronal dysfunction in periventricular white matter. The pathophysiology is considered to include a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hydrodynamic disturbance, including pressure oscillations (“B waves”), in combination with cerebrovascular disease. LÄS MER
24. Applanation Resonance Tonometry for Intraocular Pressure Measurement
Sammanfattning : Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is one of the major risk factors for glaucoma. Since glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, reliable methods for measuring the IOP are important. This doctoral dissertation presents a new method, applanation resonance tonometry (ART), for measurement of IOP. LÄS MER
25. Early arterial disease of the lower extremities in diabetes : diagnostic evaluation and risk markers
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to assess the occurrence of early lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD) in patients with diabetes and to assess novel potential risk markers for development or worsening of LEAD in the same patients. In parallel different measures of impaired peripheral circulation were evaluated. LÄS MER
