1. Comparative Assessment of Fuel-Based Systems for Space Heating
Sammanfattning : Replacing fossil fuels by biofuels and increasing energy efficiency are often considered to be options for reducing the net emission of greenhouse gases. This thesis presents the results of analyses of energy efficiency, emission and cost of whole energy system chains, from the natural resource to the end user when heating detached houses in a Swedish context. 2. IMPROVED SUPPLY OF DISTRICT HEAT TO HYDRONIC SPACE HEATING SYSTEMS
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis concern hydronic space heating systems connected via heat exchangers to a district heating network: referred to as an indirect connection. The objective has been to improve the reliability of district heat supplies and to lower the return temperature from consumer substations. LÄS MER
3. Importance of the demand-supply balance in district heating systems
Sammanfattning : In line with global efforts directed against climate change, the building sector will have to undergo significant changes in terms of its energy use, along with the transformation of the energy system. The scope of this thesis is limited to the energy supply and demand within district heating (DH) systems, with the emphasis on the space heating demand in buildings. LÄS MER
4. High altitude ion heating observed by the Cluster spacecraft
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with heating of outowing oxygen ions at high altitude above the polar cap using data from the Cluster spacecraft. oInospheric plasma may flow up from the ionosphere but at velocities which are low enough that the ions are still gravitationally bound. For the ions to overcome gravity, further acceleration is needed. LÄS MER
5. Auroral Electric Fields From Satellite Observations and Numerical Modelling
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about electrodynamics of thehigh-latitude/auroral region of near-Earth space. The work ismainly based on electric field measurements made by the doubleprobe instrument on the Freja satellite at altitudes ofapproximately 800-1700 km, together with measurements fromother instruments on the same satellite, and ground-basedinstrumentation.
