2. Origins of Kingship Traditions and Symbolism in the Great Lakes Region of Africa
Sammanfattning : Considering myth as the bearer of important symbolism with potentials to reveal history, this dissertation undertakes a historical interpretation of kingship traditions and/or myths in the Great Lakes region. While the historical sources describe the cultures of the peoples of the interlacustrine region, this study goes a step further to develop analytic categories using symbolism to interpret and explain the socio-political developments, which previously have been mystified and hence crystallised in theories as the well-known Hamitic theory. Sammanfattning : The aim of this dissertation is to discuss the two theologic anthropological concepts microcosm and steward within the World Council of Churches project called the JPIC-process - their JPIC stands for justice, peace and the integrity of creation - and to relate the two anthropological concepts to each other using a theological correlation method. After an introduction the JPIC-process, which officially took place between the General Assembly in Vancouver 1983 and the General Assembly in Canberra 1991 is described with special concern for the third sub theme the integrity of creation, and also critically analysed. Sammanfattning : Whether the Ganges river in Varanasi (India) is pristinely pure or heavily polluted depends on by whom it qualities are defined, the Brahmin religious specialists in the city or the science oriented environmentalists. While the controversy continues, some Hindu religious leaders are searching for ways to adjust their respective traditions to the environmental paradigms, an initiative that reflects a larger global religious trend.
