1. Novel Interventions in Cardiac Arrest : Targeted Temperature Management, Methylene Blue, S-PBN, Amiodarone, Milrinone and Esmolol, Endothelin and Nitric Oxide In Porcine Resuscitation Models
Sammanfattning : It is a major clinical problem that survival rates after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have not markedly improved during the last decades, despite extensive research and the introduction of new interventions. However, recent studies have demonstrated promising treatments such as targeted temperature management (TTM) and methylene blue (MB). LÄS MER
2. Cardiovascular and metabolic effects of endothelins in man : an experimental and clinical study
Sammanfattning : Increased plasma concentrations of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and of its propeptide big endothelin-1 have been reported in diseases associated with endothelial dysfunction, cardiovascular remodelling and insulin resistance. In this thesis, we studied the hemodynamic effects of big ET-1 in healthy humans focusing on the mechanisms of the effects (study I-IV). LÄS MER
3. Unusual vascular responses in the umbilical artery, mediated by endothelin-like receptors
Sammanfattning : In this present study the population of endothelin-like receptors in the human umbilical artery was examined in vitro in different parts of the umbilical cord. Immunohistochemistry revealed ETB receptors in the endothelium and an uneven distribution of ETA receptors in the smooth muscle of the arterial wall, when comparing different parts of the umbilical artery. 4. The importance of endothelin-1 for vascular function in patients with atherosclerosis and healthy controls
Sammanfattning : Background: Atherosclerosis is associated with endothelial dysfunction, which is an early sign with prognostic implications in patients with coronary artery disease. Atherosclerosis is also associated with enhanced expression of the vasoconstrictor peptide endothelin-1 (ET-1). LÄS MER
5. Endothelin in the pulmonary circulation with special reference to hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction
Sammanfattning : A number of substances originating from the pulmonary endothelium have recently been found to be involved in the regulation of pulmonary vascular tone. Accumulating evidence suggests that endothelial dysfunction contributes to pulmonary hypertension, an important clinical problem often associated with hypoxemia. LÄS MER
