1. Learning limits of functions : university students' development during a basic course in mathematics
Sammanfattning : The present thesis includes four articles and an introduction to them and the theories that frame them. The articles describe a study about students learning limits of functions at a university and the results from it. LÄS MER
2. Integral representations of Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we study integral representations of Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions, that is to say holomorphic functions defined on a product of several copies of the complex upper half-plane having non-negative imaginary part. The manuscript is divided into three parts, beginning with a general introduction followed by two papers. LÄS MER
3. Quantum many-body systems exactly solved by special functions
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns two types of quantum many-body systems in one dimension exactly solved by special functions: firstly, systems with interactions localised at points and solved by the (coordinate) Bethe ansatz; secondly, systems of Calogero-Sutherland type, as well as certain recently introduced deformations thereof, with eigenfunctions given by natural many-variable generalisations of classical (orthogonal) polynomials. The thesis is divided into two parts. LÄS MER
4. Executive functions and successful behavior
Sammanfattning : Executive functions are the underlying mechanisms that drive top-down regulation of information processing. While suboptimal executive functions have been investigated in various groups of patients, their impact and contribution to behavioral success have not been clarified. LÄS MER
5. Layered Design: Concepts, Case Studies and Processes - Theories and Implementations
Sammanfattning : Many modern applications are focused on providing as many functions as possible and attract as many users groups as possible. The interfaces become very advanced but also quite complex. In many cases the design is perceived rather difficult by the end users. LÄS MER
