  1. 1. Accelerating Distributed Storage in Heterogeneous Settings

    Författare :Waleed Reda; Dejan Kostic; Peter Van Roy; Marco Chiesa; Adam Morrison; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Distributed storage; File systems; Hardware offload; Persistent memory; Distribuerad lagring; Dilsystem; Maskinvaruavlastning; Beständigt minne; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Heterogeneity in cloud environments is a fact of life—from workload skews and network path changes, to the diversity of server hardware components, these are all factors that impact the performance of distributed storage. In this dissertation, we identify that heterogeneity can in fact be one of the primary causes of service degradation for storage systems. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Distributed k-ary System: Algorithms for Distributed Hash Tables

    Författare :Ali Ghodsi; Seif Haridi; Alexander Reinefeld; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; distributed hash tables; structured overlay networks; distributed algorithms; distributed systems; group communication; replication; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation presents algorithms for data structures called distributed hash tables (DHT) or structured overlay networks, which are used to build scalable self-managing distributed systems. The provided algorithms guarantee lookup consistency in the presence of dynamism: they guarantee consistent lookup results in the presence of nodes joining and leaving. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Improved Self-Consumption of Photovoltaic Electricity in Buildings : Storage, Curtailment and Grid Simulations

    Författare :Rasmus Luthander; Joakim Widén; Joakim Munkhammar; Ewa Wäckelgård; Nicholas Etherden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Photovoltaics; Solar energy; Self-consumption; Grid integration; Distributed generation; Energy storage; Curtailment; Power system; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The global market for photovoltaics (PV) has increased rapidly: during 2014, 44 times more was installed than in 2004, partly due to a price reduction of 60-70% during the same time period. Economic support schemes that were needed to make PV competitive on the electricity market have gradually decreased and self-consumption of PV electricity is becoming more interesting internationally from an economic perspective. 4. 4. Hydrogen Storage Materials : Design, Catalysis, Thermodynamics, Structure and Optics

    Författare :Carlos Moysés Graça Araújo; Rajeev Ahuja; Ole Martin Løvvik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Materials science; Hydrogen-storage materials; Density functional theory; Molecular dynamics; Catalysis; Thermodynamics; Optics; Materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Hydrogen is abundant, uniformly distributed throughout the Earth's surface and its oxidation product (water) is environmentally benign. Owing to these features, it is considered as an ideal synthetic fuel for a new world energetic matrix (renewable, secure and environmentally friendly) that could allow a sustainable future development. 5. 5. Managing Applications and Data in Distributed Computing Infrastructures

    Författare :Salman Zubair Toor; Sverker Holmgren; Dirk Düllmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Distributed Computing Infrastructures; Grids; Clouds; Application Management; Distributed Storage; Resource Allocation; Beräkningsvetenskap; Scientific Computing;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades the demand for large-scale computational and storage resources in science has increased dramatically. New computational infrastructures enable scientists to enter a new mode of science, e-science, which complements traditional theory and experiments. LÄS MER
