16. Influence of green pellet properties on pelletizing of magnetite iron ore
Sammanfattning : Magnetite iron ore green pellets are produced by balling moist concentrates to green pellets, which are then dried, oxidized to hematite, sintered, cooled and transported to steelmaking plants. The existing theory for balling is based on the capillary theory, but its applicability under industrial balling conditions is unclear. LÄS MER
17. Carbohydrate-Functionalized Nanomaterials : Synthesis, Characterization and Biorecognition Studies
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development of carbohydrate coupling chemistry on nanomaterials and their biological activity studies. It is divided into two parts:In part one, two carbohydrate immobilization approaches, based on perfluorophenyl azide (PFPA)-functionalized silica nanoparticles (SNPs), are presented, where the binding affinity of the glyconanoparticles was evaluated through carbohydrate-lectin interaction. 18. Structural Requirements for Selective DNA Binding - Studies on Mono- and Binuclear Ruthenium Complexes
Sammanfattning : Ever since the discovery of the role of DNA as the template for protein synthesis, efforts have been made to develop DNA targeted drugs. One of the major challenges in the design of DNA binding drugs is to achieve selective binding to specific DNA sequences, which is crucial to avoid side effects. LÄS MER
19. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids
Sammanfattning : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. 20. Reaction-Diffusion kinetics of Protein DNA Interactions
Sammanfattning : Transcription factors need to rapidly find one specific binding site among millions of nonspecific sites on the chromosomal DNA. In this thesis I use various aspects of reaction-diffusion theory to investigate the interaction between proteins and DNA and to explain the searching, finding and binding to specific operator sites.
