1. Networking Media Abstraction, Device Discovery, and Routing for the Pervasive Middleware PalCom
Sammanfattning : PalCom is a pervasive middleware that can be used to assemble services provided by networked devices into configurations, called assemblies, for specific use cases by the user. In this dissertation, we present the development of a networking media abstraction framework for PalCom that abstracts different network interfaces in a PalCom device to upper layers of PalCom. 2. Creating & Enabling the Useful Service Discovery Experience : The Perfect Recommendation Does Not Exist
Sammanfattning : We are rapidly entering a world with an immense amount of services and devices available to humans and machines. This is a promising future, however there are at least two major challenges for using these services and devices: (1) they have to be found and (2) after being found, they have to be selected amongst. 3. Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry for Determination of Noncovalent Interactions in Drug Discovery
Sammanfattning : Noncovalent interactions are involved in many biological processes in which biomolecules bind specifically and reversibly to a partner. Often, proteins do not have a biological activity without the presence of a partner, a ligand. LÄS MER
4. Spin momentum transfer effects for spintronic device applications
Sammanfattning : The recent discovery that a spin-polarized current can exert a large torque on a ferromagnet, through direct transfer of spin angular momentum, offers the possibility of electrical current controlled manipulation of magnetic moment in nanoscale magnetic device structures. This so-called spin torque effect holds great promise for two applications, namely, spin torque oscillators (STOs) for wireless communication and radar communication, and spin transfer torque RAM (STT-RAM) for data/information storage. 5. A Solution Exchange Platform for Exposure of Cells to Chemical Waves
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the development, characterization and suggested applications of a platform for controlling the chemical environment around a cell or a cell constituent. The platform is unique in its capability to combine rapid solution switching with precise timing and access to a manifold of solution environments. LÄS MER
