1. Prostasome Modulation of Blood Cascade System and Phosphoprotein Reactions with Focus on Prostate Cancer
Sammanfattning : Prostasomes are extracellularly occurring submicron, membrane-surrounded organelles produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate and present in semen. Their precise physiological role is not known, although some of their properties assign them to important physiological and patho-physiological functions. LÄS MER
2. Early oncogenic events and defective apoptosis in prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in males in the Western world. Although the mechanisms are unclear, it is generally believed that the accumulation of genetic alterations leads to the tumor formation. LÄS MER
3. Endocannabinoid metabolism : the impact of inflammatory factors and pharmacological inhibitors
Sammanfattning : The endocannabinoid (eCB) system is an endogenous signaling system consisting of ligands (referred to as endocannabinoids, eCBs), receptors and metabolic enzymes. The eCB system is involved in homeostatic control of a variety of biological functions such as neuronal signaling, mood, appetite and pathological conditions such as pain, inflammation and tumour progression. 4. Somatostatin effects on the proteome of human prostate cancer cells
Sammanfattning : The transition of prostate cancer from androgen dependent to the therapy resistant androgen independent state, is a large and persistent problem in the clinical management of prostate cancer. The aim of this thesis was to study somatostatin effects on the proteome of prostate cancer cells, to identify differences in protein expression in androgen dependent and androgen independent prostate cancer cells, and to explore possibilities to enhance the somatostatin receptor expression through pre-treatment with sms, 5-aza and TSA (DNA methylation/HDAC inhibitors). 5. Studies on the mechanisms of sorafenib-induced cell death
Sammanfattning : In 2008, 26% of all deaths were cancer-related, making this group of diseases the second leading cause of death in the EU countries. Derailment of tyrosine kinase signaling is one important pre-requisite towards tumorigenesis. LÄS MER
