  1. 1. Sulfur-Related Conservation Concerns in Marine Archaeological Wood : The Origin, Speciation and Distribution of Accumulated Sulfur with Some Remedies for the Vasa

    Författare :Yvonne Fors; Magnus Sandström; Ian MacLeod; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sulfur accumulation; marine archaeological wood; Vasa; acidity; iron; ammonia; x-ray spectroscopy; cellulose; Chemistry; Kemi; strukturkemi; Structural Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Synchrotron-based sulfur spectroscopy reveals a common concern for marine archaeological wood from seawater: accumulation of reduced sulfur compounds in two pathways. The distribution of sulfur species in the oak wood cell structure was mapped by scanning x-ray spectro-microscopy (SXM). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Seabirds as food for thought : An integrative study on seabird ecology and ecosystem services in changing marine systems

    Författare :Martina Kadin; Thorsten Blenckner; Morten Frederiksen; Olof Olsson; Johan Elmberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seabirds; ecosystem services; social-ecological systems; marine systems; fisheries; foraging ecology; provisioning behaviour; common murre; common guillemot; Uria aalge; Stora Karlsö; Baltic Sea; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of the benefits that humans obtain from the oceans is increasingly recognized, along with the rapid decline in marine resources that threatens these benefits. Studying seabirds – top predators in marine ecosystems, can provide insights about multiple pressures and the state of the oceans. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Phase Transformations in Solid Pharmaceutical Materials Studied by AFM, ESCA, DSC and SAXS

    Författare :Denny Mahlin; Göran Alderborn; Sven Engström; Duncan Q M Craig; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Mixing excipients is a common way to produce pharmaceutical materials with suitable properties for drug formulation. An understanding of the basic mechanisms involved in the formation and transformation of the structures of solid state mixtures is crucial if one is to be able to produce materials with the desired properties in a reliable way. Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the structure and stability of globular proteins adsorbed onto nanometer-sized hydrophilic silica particles were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX), and mass spectrometry (MS). The adsorption process itself was characterized with fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). LÄS MER
