1. Force measurements using scanning probe microscopy : Applications to advanced powder processing
Sammanfattning : The object of this thesis is to apply scanning probemicroscopy (SPM) to the field of advanced powder processing.Measurement of interparticle surface forces at conditionsrelevant to ceramic processing has been performed together withthorough studies of powder friction. LÄS MER
2. Steric Stabilization of Polylactide particles achieved by Covalent 'grafting-from' with Hydrophilic Polymers
Sammanfattning : Despite numerous advantages of using particles in a wide range of applications, they have one drawback that is their tendency to agglomerate. One way to overcome this problem is to sterically stabilize the particles by introducing polymeric chains covalently attached to the surface. LÄS MER
3. Interfacial properties of calcium montmorillonite in aqueous solutions : Density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics studies on the electric double layer
Sammanfattning : The swelling properties of Bentonite are highly affected by clay content and the clay-water interactions that arise from the ion distribution in the diffuse double layer formed near the charged montmorillonite (or smectite) surfaces. Existing continuum models describing the electric double layers, such as classical Poisson-Boltzmann and DLVO theory, ignore the ion-ion correlations, which are especially important for multivalent ions at high surface charge and ionic strength. 4. Self-organization of nanoparticles - implications for interface biology
Sammanfattning : Cells bind to their surroundings via proteins displayed on the cell surface. These interactions support the cells and are important for many cellular processes, e.g. cell migration during morphogenesis, wound healing and cancer metastasis. LÄS MER
5. Aqueous Processing of WC-Co Powders
Sammanfattning : The object of this work is to obtain a fundamentalunderstanding of the principal issues concerning the handlingof an aqueous WC-Co powder suspension. The WO3 surface layer on the oxidised tungsten carbidepowder dissolves at pH>3 with the tungsten concentrationincreasing linearly with time.
