3. Social Networks and the School-to-Work Transition
Sammanfattning : Essay I: This paper studies the importance of market work during high school for graduates' school-to-work transition and career. Relying on Swedish linked employer-employee data, I show that such work provides students with an important job-search channel that some graduates are deprived of due to establishment closures that occur just prior to graduation and labor market entry. 4. Essays on Income Risk and Inequality
Sammanfattning : Consumption Dynamics under Time-Varying Unemployment Risk We study the response of households' demand for durable goods to fluctuations in unemployment risk. First, using survey data, we document that household durable expenditures react strongly to unemployment risk, while the effect on nondurable expenditures is indistinguishable from zero. LÄS MER
5. Essays on Unemployment and Real Exchange Rates
Sammanfattning : In the first essay, Persistence in Swedish Unemployment Rates, we study if there is no or weak tendency in unemployment rates to revert back to previous levels. Persistence is caused by: natural rate shocks, long unemployment cycles, and spill-over from cyclical to permanent unemployment. We find evidence of high persistence. LÄS MER
