  1. 1. Methods of Measuring Radioactivity in the Environment

    Författare :Mats Isaksson; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radioactivity; soil sampling; depth distribution; nuclear weapons fallout; Chernobyl; sewage sludge; deposition; Ekologi; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Isaksson; Ecology; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Cs-137;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis a variety of sampling methods have been utilised to assess the amount of deposited activity, mainly of Cs-137, from the Chernobyl accident and from the nuclear weapons tests. Starting with the Chernobyl accident in 1986 sampling of air and rain was used to determine the composition and amount of radioactive debris from this accident, brought to southern Sweden by the weather systems. 2. 2. In situ measurements of radionuclide concentration in soil : An investigation into detector properties and methods

    Författare :Johan Kastlander; Christoph Bargholtz; Mats Isaksson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :In situ gamma-ray spectrometry; LaBr3; CdTe; Cs-137; soil samples; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In case of a release of radioactive nuclides into the environment it is necessary to  have reliable methods to estimate the potential effect on people and the ecosystem. In this context the total activity deposited, the elemental composition and the depth distribution are of importance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Atmospheric Production and Transport of Cosmogenic 7Be and 10Be

    Författare :Abdulhadi Kulan; Ala Aldahan; Göran Possnert; Raimund Muscheler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Earth sciences; Aerosols; Atmosphere; Cosmogenic Be-7 and Be-10; Cs-137; Clouds; Sweden; Europe; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the atmospheric distribution of the cosmogenic isotopes 7Be (half-life 53 days) and 10Be (half-life 1.51 million years) as well as the anthropogenic isotope 137Cs (half-life 30 years) in aerosols and precipitation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Irradiation of members of the general public from radioactive caesium following the Chernobyl reactor accident. Field studies in a highly contaminated area in the Bryansk region, Russia

    Författare :Charlotte Thornberg; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medicinsk instrumentering; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; body burden; Effective dose; Cs-137; urinary excretion; Cs-134; biological half-time; Chernobyl; breast milk; Medicine human and vertebrates ; internal irradiation; external irradiation; TLD; Clinical physics; radiology; medical instrumentation; tomography; Medicin människa och djur ; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : From 1990 to 1998, estimations of the effective dose from external as well as internal irradiation from 137Cs and 134Cs were carried out for inhabitants in rural villages in the Bryansk region, Russia, highly contaminated due to the Chernobyl accident in 1986. The villages were situated about 180 km from the Chernobyl power plant and the deposition of 137Cs was in the range 0. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Anthropogenic Radionuclides in the Arctic Ocean: Distribution and Pathways

    Författare :Dan Josefsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; americium; plutonium; iodine; strontium; cesium; Sellafield; Chernobyl; global fallout; currents; shelf; ocean; radioactivity; Arctic; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic radionuclide concentrations have been determined in seawater and sediment samples collected in 1991, 1994 and 1996 in the Eurasian Arctic shelf and interior. Global fallout, releases from European reprocessing plants and the Chernobyl accident are identified as the three main sources. LÄS MER
