  1. 1. Three-Dimensional Metal-Semiconductor Heterostructures for Device Applications

    Författare :Lars-Erik Wernersson; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schottky contacts; space-charge spectroscopy; ballistic transport; Coulomb repulsion; electron interference; resonant tunnelling; lateral confinement; heterojunction permeable base transistor; resonant tunnelling diodes; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Wernersson; Fysik; Physics; resonant tun; epitaxial overgrowth;

    Sammanfattning : Fabrication and characterisation of buried metal contacts in compound semiconductors are demonstrated. The contacts have been investigated due to their usage both as gates in transistors and as active or passive elements in novel devices. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Current measurement by real-time counting of single charges

    Författare :Jonas Bylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; array of tunnel junctions; Coulomb blockade; radio frequency single electron transistor; SET oscillations; time correlated tunnelling; metrology; current standard; SET; charge solitons;

    Sammanfattning : The first real-time observation of time correlated single-electron tunnelling is reported in this thesis. This is a direct detection of charge discreteness in an electrical current.When a current, I, flows through a chain of metallic islands, connected by small tunnel junctions, a lattice of charges is formed due to the Coulomb repulsion. 3. 3. Time-resolved detection of temporally correlated, single-charge tunnelling

    Författare :Jonas Bylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson junctions; time-correlated tunnelling; radio-frequency single-electron transistor; current standard; charge solitons; SET oscillations; Coulomb blockade; metrology; SET; tunnel junction array;

    Sammanfattning : We report real-time detection of the single charges that constitute a small electrical current, as they flow through a nano-electronic device. This represents a direct demonstration of charge discreteness in an electrical current. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies on hybrid superconducting junctions

    Författare :Cecilia Holmqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Critical Current; Single-Electron Box; Attractive Correlations; Josephson Junction; Negative Charging Energy; Quasiclassical Superconductivity; Josephson Current;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of nanoelectronics, one seeks to combine quantum mechanical effects with macroscopic entities such as currents in order to find new ways of storing and manipulating information. One possibility to accomplish this is to use the quantum correlations found in superconductors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantum Theory of Exciton-Exciton Interactions in Atomically Thin Semiconductors

    Författare :Daniel Erkensten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; excitons; transition-metal dichalcogenides; many-body theory; van der Waals heterostructures; 2D materials;

    Sammanfattning : Atomically thin materials such as transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have emerged as an unprecedented platform for engineering future optoelectronic devices and studying exotic quantum phases of matter. In particular, the strong Coulomb interaction in these materials enables the formation of tightly-bound excitons, electron-hole pairs with neither purely fermionic nor bosonic character. LÄS MER
