1. Ages of liberty : social upheaval, history writing, and the new public sphere in Sweden, 1740-1792
Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates how different social groups used history as a political instrument in Sweden during the second half of the eighteenth century (1740-1792). More specifically, it analyzes how representations of the past were used to influence behavior, legitimize claims to power, mould opinion and forge collective identities. LÄS MER
2. Mathematical modelling approach to collective decision-making
Sammanfattning : In everyday situations individuals make decisions. For example, a tourist usually chooses a crowded or recommended restaurant to have dinner. Perhaps it is an individual decision, but the observed pattern of decision-making is a collective phenomenon. LÄS MER
3. Nanoplasmonics for solar cells
Sammanfattning : The main source of our energy system, the fossil fuels, will eventually be depleted and also pose environmental and climate hazards. There is thus a need for alternative, renewable energy sources. Solar (photovoltaic) cells will play an important role as one of them. LÄS MER
4. Lattice Boltzmann simulations of tracer diffusion in microswimmer suspensions
Sammanfattning : Suspensions of microswimmers are a class of systems inherently out of equilibrium, due to the mechanical work continuously performed by a large number of active agents. Biological examples are plentiful, as many aquatic microorganisms have the ability to propel themselves. LÄS MER
5. The Egyptian Uprising of 2011: Tracing the Role of the Cairo-Based Political Opposition
Sammanfattning : It is the aim of this study to understand the mobilization process leading up to and the diffusion of collective contentious behavior during the Egyptian Uprising of 2011.
