Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I study representations of summer and winter Olympic Games and Olympic athletes in six Swedish popular magazines 1948-1972. The purpose is to examine the forms of identity produced within the nation as an “imagined community”, in discursive processes where gender, sexuality, ”race”/ ethnicity, class and age/generation intersect and mutually construct each other. Sammanfattning : In this dissertation, The History of the Victors, the question of how history is used to create meaning, provide orientation in the present and indicate desirable alternative actions for the future is examined. Using a number of Swedish examples from the years 1939 to 1953, the dissertation investigates how history is used for moral, political and existential aims, with focus given to the Swedish political scientist and writer Hebert Tingsten (1896-1973). 4. Battlefields of memory : The Macedonian conflict and Greek historical culture
Sammanfattning : In 1991, a diplomatic controversy arose between Greece and the newly independent Republic of Macedonia, regarding naming, minority rights and the use of historical symbols.
