1. Moisture Transport in Porous Media. Modelling Based on Kirchhoff Potentials
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the development of the new concept to describe isothermal moisture transport using Kirchhoff potentials. The first four papers deal with moisture transport in porous media using Kirchhoff potentials. The last three papers deal with wood. LÄS MER
2. Thermodynamic modelling of black liquor-related solutions. Pitzer method for estimating activities, solubilities and boiling point rise
Sammanfattning : Black liquor is considered as being one of the most important process streams as far as the design and optimization of kraft pulp mills are concerned. Many methods have been developed in order to describe and, possibly, predict its physico-chemical properties. Most of them are, however, empirical methods that are difficult to generalize. LÄS MER
3. Extraction of Metal Values : Thermodynamics of Electrolyte Solutions and Molten Salts Extraction Process
Sammanfattning : Over the past centuries, a number of process routes for extraction of metal values from an ore or other resources have been developed. These can generally be classifiedinto pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical or electrometallurgical routes. LÄS MER
4. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry
Sammanfattning : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately. 5. Colour Correction of Underwater Images Using Spectral Data
Sammanfattning : For marine sciences sometimes there is a need to perform underwater photography. Optical properties of light cause severe quality problems for underwater photography. Light of different energies is absorbed at highly different rates under water causing significant bluishness of the images. LÄS MER
