16. Mutual Mate Choice in the Deep Snouted Pipefish Syngnathus typhle
Sammanfattning : This thesis integrates the fields of sexual selection, parental investment and sex role theory by investigating mutual mate choice and mate competition in the sex role reversed deep snouted pipefish Syngnathus typhle (Pisces: Syngnathidae) through a series of laboratory experiments. 17. Problems and experiments in cone-beam tomography
Sammanfattning : Two-dimensional detectors for cone-beam exposure are now introduced in medical as well as industrial computer tomography. This thesis starts with a review of basic 2D reconstruction algorithms and the first proposal for cone-beam tomography due to Feldkamp et al.Exact reconstruction is possible only if complete projection data are avail able. 18. Experiments and modelling of fracture initiation at impact
Sammanfattning : The thesis addresses different questions, each necessary in the understanding of dynamic fracture initiation and crack propagation in steel. Emphasis lays on dynamic crack propagation experiments performed in the ductile to brittle transition region and possible conclusions, that can be drawn from them. LÄS MER
19. Food choice in fallow deer – experimental studies of selectivity
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I experimentally investigate feeding selectivity in fallow deer (Dama dama), with respect to plant secondary compounds, especially tannins, which can decrease the quality of foods. I found that fallow deer avoided foods with higher amounts of tannic acid and Quebracho tannin, even though the deer ate some high-tannin food. LÄS MER
20. When Employees Leap to Self-Employment
Sammanfattning : The dissertation studies the determinants of self-employment entry through an economics of entrepreneurship lens, and examines two sources of data: 7 years of employer--employee matched panel data and a laboratory experiment. The results suggest that employees are more likely to take the leap to self-employment when they have their own business idea, and are employed in occupations with high wage variance. LÄS MER
