7. Compound-specific stable chlorine isotope analysis : A versatile tool for investigating biochemical and geochemical processes of organochlorine substances
Sammanfattning : Chlorinated organic compounds (OCls) from anthropogenic sources are generally considered to be a class of chemicals with high potential for ecotoxicity, including infamous substances such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), dichloro-dibenzo-trichloroethane (DDT) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD). OCls are also produced naturally, sometimes at the same order of magnitude as anthropogenic compounds. LÄS MER
8. Effects of Varying Combustion Conditions on PCDD/F Formation
Sammanfattning : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are by-products emitted from combustion sources such as municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration plants. These organic compounds are recognized as toxic, bioaccumulative and persistent in the environment. LÄS MER
9. Molecular Beam Studies of Interactions Between Ice Surfaces and Atmospherically Relevant Molecules
Sammanfattning : The discovery of the ozone hole over Antarctica in 1985 was one of the environmental issues that attracted most attention worldwide in the end of the last century. The cause of the ozone hole formation was proven to be coupled to the emission of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). LÄS MER
10. Alkali Induced High Temperature Corrosion of Stainless Steel - Experiences from Laboratory and Field
Sammanfattning : The high temperature corrosion of steam superheaters is a major obstacle that has to be overcome in order to increase the electricity generating efficiency of power boilers burning biomass or waste. This thesis addresses this issue by a combination of well-controlled model experiments in the laboratory and short and long term field exposures using cooled probes in full-scale biomass and waste fired boilers.
