  1. 16. Stereotyped B Cell Receptors in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia : Implications for Antigen Selection in Leukemogenesis

    Författare :Fiona Murray; Richard Rosenquist Brandell; Kostas Stamatopoulos; Gunilla Enblad; Gerard Tobin; Manlio Ferrarini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; immunoglobulin genes; somatic hypermutation; stereotyped B cell receptors; antigen selection; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biased immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) gene usage and distinctive B-cell receptor (BCR) features have been reported in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which may reflect clonal selection by antigens during disease development. Furthermore, the IGHV gene mutation status distinguishes two clinical entities of CLL, where patients with unmutated IGHV genes have an inferior prognosis compared to those with mutated IGHV genes. 2. 17. Validation of antibodies for protein profiling : A study using immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays

    Författare :Linda Paavilainen; Fredrik Pontén; Ola Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibody validation; monospecific antibodies; protein profiling; immunohistochemistry; tissue microarrays; western blot; fixatives; Pathology; Patologi; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : The field of proteomics has rapidly expanded due to the completion of the human genome sequence. This thesis validates affinity-purified monospecific antibodies of polyclonal origin, for protein profiling in a broad spectrum of normal tissues and cells. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Mechanisms of mechanically induced Osteoclastogenesis : in a novel in vitro model for bone implant loosening

    Författare :Cornelia Bratengeier; Anna Fahlgren; Per Aspenberg; Mikael Sigvardsson; Oran Kennedy; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Total joint arthroplasty is the primary intervention in the treatment of end-stage osteoarthritis. Despite the high success rate, in some patients, the replacement will fail during their lifetime requiring a revision of the implant. These revisions are strenuous for the patient and costly for health care. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mechanisms of Regulation of the Cell Cycle Inhibitor p21Waf1/Cip1 in TGF-β-Mediated Cell Growth Inhibition

    Författare :Katerina Pardali; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Hernrik Heldin; Marikki Laiho; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; TGF-β; cell cycle; p21; Smad; signal transduction; transcription; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : TGF-β is the founding member of a multifunctional family of cytokines that regulate many aspects of cell physiology, including cell growth, differentiation, motility and death and play important roles in many developmental and pathological processes. TGF-β signals by binding to a heterotetrameric complex of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Analysis of Immunoglobulin Genes and Telomeres in B cell Lymphomas and Leukemias

    Författare :Sarah Walsh; Richard Rosenquist; Christer Sundström; Anna Laurell; Andreas Rosenwald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; B cell lymphoma leukemia; mantle cell lymphoma; hairy cell leukemia; lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma; immunoglobulin genes; antigen selection; telomeres; cellular origin; somatic hypermutation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : B cell lymphomas and leukemias are heterogeneous tumors with different cellular origins. Analysis of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes enables insight into the B cell progenitor, as Ig somatic hypermutation correlates with antigen-related B cell transit through the germinal center (GC). LÄS MER
