11. Biology of a small RNA virus that infects Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Drosophila melanogaster has been extensively used as a model organism to study diverse facets of biology, including host-pathogen interactions and the basic biology of its pathogens. I have used the fruit fly as a model to study elementary aspects of Nora virus biology, such as the role of the different proteins encoded by the virus genome. LÄS MER
12. Diversification of TGF-β Signaling in Homeostasis and Disease
Sammanfattning : With the dawn of metazoans, the ability of cells to communicate with each other became of paramount importance in maintaining tissue homeostasis. The transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) signaling pathway, which plays important roles during embryogenesis and in the adult organism, signals via a heterodimeric receptor complex consisting of two type II and two type I receptors. 13. A holistic view on transcriptional regulatory networks in S. cerevisiae: Implications and utilization
Sammanfattning : Life; perhaps it is bold to start an abstract with this powerful word, but this is where I will start. My research is at the heart of life. LÄS MER
14. Development of Computational Methods for Cancer Research: Strategies for closing the feedback loop in omics workflows
Sammanfattning : As the ultimate workhorses of the living things, proteins undergo significant regulatory activity throughout the lifetime of a cell or an organism. Many complex diseases effect the protein composition, expression or modification in the cells or tissues they arise in. LÄS MER
15. Investigating Amyloid β toxicity in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : In this thesis Drosophila melanogaster (the fruit fly) has been used as a model organism to study the aggregation and toxic properties of the human amyloid β (Aβ) peptide involved in the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is one of many misfolding diseases where the important event of a protein to adopt its’ specific three-dimensional structure has failed, leading to aggregation and formation of characteristic amyloid fibrils.
