    Sammanfattning : Celiac disease is a prevalent small bowel disease in children caused by permanent intolerance against gliadin, which is the alcohol-soluble fraction of the cereal protein gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa leading to damage of villous structure and loss of absorptive surface. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Clinical Aspects of Screening Detected Celiac Disease among 12-year-olds

    Författare :Maria vanderPals; Lund Pediatrik; []

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Sweden experienced an epidemic (1984-96) of celiac disease in children, partly attributed to changes in infant feed- ing. Our aim was to compare the total prevalence of celiac disease in two birth cohorts of 12-year-olds and relate the findings to each cohort’s ascertained infant feeding. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of immunogenetics, infections, and nutrition on the risk of celiac disease autoimmunity in an Ethiopian pediatric birth cohort

    Författare :Adugna Negussie Gudeta; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; celiac disease; HLA-DQ2; HLA-DQ8; infection; diet;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the intestine in genetically susceptible individuals caused by loss of tolerance to the storage proteins (gluten) in wheat, rye, and barley. Little is known about CD and associated risk factors in Sub-Saharan African countries including Ethiopia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Triggers of autoimmunity. Studies on gestational events

    Författare :Sabina Lindehammer; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islet autoantibodies; pregnancy; type 1 diabetes; celiac disease;

    Sammanfattning : Objective The primary aim of this thesis was to test whether gestational exposure to environmental factors may induce islet autoimmunity. The second aim was to determine to what extent the exposure to viruses or other environmental factors is a risk factor for type 1 diabetes in the offspring. LÄS MER
