1. Multidimensional MRI of Cardiac Motion : Acquisition, Reconstruction and Visualization
Sammanfattning : Methods for measuring deformation and motion of the human heart in-vivo are crucial in the assessment of cardiac function. Applications ranging from basic physiological research, through early detection of disease to follow-up studies, all benefit from improved methods of measuring the dynamics of the heart. LÄS MER
2. Quantitative cardiac 15O-water PET : Assessment of left-ventricular function, remodeling, and impact of patient motion
Sammanfattning : International guidelines advocate the use of noninvasive cardiac imaging as the initial diagnostic test for coronary artery disease, the global leading cause of death according to the world health organization. Within the wide spectrum of cardiac imaging, 15O-water PET is the gold standard for noninvasive quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF). LÄS MER
3. Annular Motion : Assessment of Cardiac Function using Echocardiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Sammanfattning : This thesis concentrates on the assessment of cardiac function, both systolic and diastolic using variables originating from the longitudinal motion of the heart using both established and novel non-invasive imaging techniques. We developed a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that creates an M-mode MRI image, analogous to the one used in echocardiography and enables quantitative assessment of cardiac motion. 4. Ventricular rotation and the rotation axis : a new concept in cardiac function
Sammanfattning : Background: The twisting motion of the left ventricle (LV), with clockwise rotation at the base and counter clockwise rotation at the apex during systole, is a vital part of LV function. Even though LV rotation has been studied for decades, the rotation pattern has not been described in detail. LÄS MER
5. Left ventricular dysfunction in critically ill patients
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: Cardiac dysfunction is common in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients and can contribute to multiorgan failure and death. Despite this, few studies have been performed on pathogenies, prevalence, diagnosis and impact on mortality in unselected ICU patients. LÄS MER
