1. Hormonal Regulation of the Human CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 Genes
Sammanfattning : CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and are two key enzymes involved in the pathways for conversion of cholesterol to bile acids. Also, CYP27A1 is involved in bioactivation of vitamin D3 and CYP7B1 plays a role in 7alpha-hydroxylation of dehydroepiandrosterone and other steroids. LÄS MER
2. Steroid-Metabolizing Cytochrome P450 (CYP) Enzymes in the Maintenance of Cholesterol and Sex Hormone Levels
Sammanfattning : The enzymes CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and perform catalytic reactions in cholesterol homeostasis and endocrine signaling. We have investigated the metabolism of a synthetic oxysterol. LÄS MER
3. Enzymatic Regulation of Steroidogenesis and Nuclear Receptor Activation : Special Focus on Vitamin D and Sex Hormones
Sammanfattning : Enzyme-catalyzed reactions are important to regulate steroidogenesis and nuclear receptor activation. The present investigation examines the role of steroid metabolism catalyzed by CYP7B1 for regulation of hormone receptor activation and the effects of vitamin D on enzymatic regulation of steroidogenesis. 4. The role of the prostate in androgen metabolism
Sammanfattning : The androgenic steroid hormones are essential for the physiological development of the prostate gland and are also implicated in pathological processes such as benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. The systemic effect of endocrine activity in the prostate gland has so far been considered of minor importance. LÄS MER
5. Estrogen receptor b in the urogenital tract of both male and female
Sammanfattning : The central finding of this thesis is that estrogen receptors regulate androgen receptor expression: ERalpha unpregulates AR and ERbeta down-regulates AR. With this theme, we explored the physiological role of an ER-AR pathway, especially ERbeta-AR, in some urogenital tissues, uterus, ovary and prostate, using ERbeta knockout mice. LÄS MER
