21. In-Nozzle Flow, Spray and Combustion Investigations of Two-Stroke Marine Diesel Engine Fuel Injectors
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the experimental studies of the cavitating in-nozzle flow of large two-stroke marine Diesel engine fuel injector nozzles and how it affects the spray morphology and combustion behaviour. To further increase the efficiency of large two-stroke marine Diesel engines, a better understanding of the fuel spray atomization process is necessary. LÄS MER
22. Numerical Studies of Methanol PPC Engines and Diesel Sprays
Sammanfattning : The global environment suffers from utilizing fossil fuels to powering internal combustion engines (ICE), due to the massive amounts of released CO2. Besides the global impact, the local environments experience high concentrations of harmful pollutants such as NOx, CO, soot and particulate matter (PM). LÄS MER
23. Complex Chemistry Modeling of Diesel Spray Combustion
Sammanfattning : The thesis illustrates the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to turbulent reactive two-phase flows in piston engines. The focus of the thesis lies on numerical simulations of spray combustion phenomena with an emphasis on the modeling of turbulence/chemistry interaction effects using a detailed chemistry approach. 24. CFD-based Analysis of Combustion Processes in a Free-Piston Diesel Engine
Sammanfattning : The Free Piston Engine (FPE) which is capable of operating in a variable compression ratio mode, allows flexible auto-ignition control on a cycle-to-cycle basis without any hardware modifications. In this study combustion processes in an FPE were examined using the KIVA-3V CFD code with detailed chemical kinetics (305 reactions among 70 species) of a Diesel surrogate fuel incorporated. LÄS MER
25. Diesel Fuel Spray Formation and Combustion - A Modeling Approach
Sammanfattning : The formation, ignition and combustion of fuel sprays are highly complex processes, and the models that are traditionally used to describe them have a range of shortcomings. The introduction of commercial and non-commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software has facilitated the development and application of new and improvedmultidimensional CFD models describing these phenomena.
