  1. 1. Calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase signal transduction in cerebral arteries

    Författare :Roya Waldsee; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CAMK; Ednothelin receptors; Calcium; gene regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebral arteries participate actively in the response that follows an episode of cerebral ischemia in man and rat. It has been shown that the vascular endothelin receptor expression is increased in stroke and organ culture. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nutrient and energy sensing in skeletal muscle

    Författare :Atul S Deshmukh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Skeletal muscle; AMPK; mTOR; glucose metabolism; exercise; Akt; TBC1D1 D4; CaMK; NO-cGMP;

    Sammanfattning : Nutrient overload and physical inactivity often leads to the development of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Acute over-nutrition can induce insulin resistance, while physical exercise enhances skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity. Like every living cell, skeletal muscle senses nutrient and energy signals and to adjust metabolic flux. LÄS MER

  3. 3. RUNX1/AML1 functions and mechanisms regulating granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor transcription

    Författare :Hebin Liu; Sven Påhlman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :RUNX1 AML1; Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor GM-CSF ; Calcineurin; CaMKII; Ets1; Transforming growth factor-b TGF-b ; Smad3; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a multipotent cytokine involved in the production and function of hematopoietic cells, and GM-CSF plays in particular a major role in responses to infection and physiological and pathological inflammatory processes. GM-CSF is produced in many cell types, and increases in the intracellular Ca2+ concentration are, like in many other systems, of major importance in the intracellular signaling that determines GM-CSF expression after receptor stimulation of the cells. 4. 4. Regulation of NF-κB by Calmodulin

    Författare :Åsa Antonsson; Thomas Grundström; Ylva Engström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; NF-κB; calmodulin; transcription; calcium; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Cells experience numerous external signals which they must respond to. Such signals arriving at the cell surface are transduced via various signal transduction pathways and often ultimately result in regulation of transcription. LÄS MER

  5. 5. From adrenergic signalling to gene expression : a study in brown adipocytes

    Författare :Håkan Thonberg; Paul Trayhurn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Many external stimuli influence gene expression in cells by first interacting with cell surface receptors. For alteration of the expression of a gene, the signal has to be passed into the nucleus. This is facilitated by particular proteins/molecules in a signal transduction cascade. LÄS MER
