  1. 1. Diabetes and Coronary Surgery : Metabolic and clinical studies on diabetic patients after coronary surgery with special reference to cardiac metabolism and high-dose GIK

    Författare :Zoltán Szabó; Folke Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; heart; coronary surgery; cardiac surgery; myocardial metabolism; free fatty; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction An increasing proportion of the patients undergoing cardiac surgery have diabetes mellitus, in particular type II diabetes. In spite of this, diabetic patients have received limited attention in this setting. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery : an analysis of risk factors, mechanisms, and survival effects

    Författare :Giovanni Mariscalco; Bengt Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; adult; cardiac surgery; coronary artery bypass grafting; valvular surgery; cardiopulmonary bypass; mortalilty; histology; catecholamines; embolism; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Despite the recent improvements in surgical techniques and postoperative patient care, atrial fibrillation (AF) remains the most frequent complication after cardiac surgery. Although postoperative AF is often regarded as a benign clinical condition, this arrhythmia has significant adverse effects on patient recovery and postoperative survival. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Atrial fibrillation in cardiac surgery

    Författare :Anders Ahlsson; Anders Englund; Johan Brandt; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Inflammation; CABG surgery; Survival analysis; Follow-up studies; Ablation; Microwave; Transmurality; Atrial function; Tissue velocity echocardiography; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi; Kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi; Surgery esp. Thoracic and Cardivascular Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia seen in clinical practice. In cardiac surgery, one-third of the patients experience episodes of AF during the first postoperative days (postoperative AF), and patients with preoperative AF (concomitant AF) can be offered ablation procedures in conjunction with surgery, in order to restore ordinary sinus rhythm (SR). 4. 4. S100B and Cardiac Surgery

    Författare :Henrik Bjursten; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; S100-B; S100B; S100beta; brain damage; cardiac surgery; CABG; renal function; autotransfusion; Cardiovascular system; serum marker; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : The brain-derived protein S100B is a 21 Kda dimerand have been used as a serum marker for brain damage of different etiology. The feasability of protein S100B as serum marker for brain damage after cardiac surgery was studied in this thesis. One unexpected finding was made, which changed the basis for interpration of S100B levels. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Clinically-driven angiography after coronary artery bypass surgery : Results from the SWEDEHEART registry

    Författare :Mikael Janiec; Rickard Lindblom; Stefan Thelin; Alexander Wahba; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CABG; Coronary artery bypass surgery; angiography; graft failure; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The success of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) arguably depends on the patency rate of the conduits. The saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) most often used are subject to graft disease and their reduced long-term patency compared to left internal mammary artery (IMA) grafts is well established. LÄS MER
