1. Long-term effects of acupuncture
Sammanfattning : In a retrospective follow-up study, n=202, long-term pain relief (>6 months) after a course of acupuncture treatments was found mainly among patients with chronic nociceptive pain while patients with neurogenic or psychogenic pain did not benefit much. In a placebo-controlled randomised single-blind long-term study with independent observer of chronic nociceptive low back pain, n=50, it was found that acupuncture, was significantly superior to true placebo in all outcome measurements, even more than 6 months after the treatment series. 2. Plasticity in mice nociceptive spinal circuits -role of cell adhesion molecules
Sammanfattning : Introduction: To understand the function of the genes and their products in the pain system, studies will have to deal with complex issues related to intercellular communication, e.g. plasticity in neuronal networks. LÄS MER
3. Release and effects of calcitonin gene-related peptide in myocardial ischaemia
Sammanfattning : A proportion of sensory C-fibres is characterized by sensitivity to the pungent agent in hot peppers, capsaicin. Upon stimulation by capsaicin, co-stored peptides including calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), are released from the peripheral terminals of these fibres. LÄS MER
4. Thin-fibre signalling in humans: Cortical processing of sensory afference and autonomic efference
Sammanfattning : Thin nerve fibres innervate the entire human body and mediate sensations such as pain, temperature and visceral sensory input. Moreover, a special class of unmyelinated afferents responsive to light touch has recently been found in humans: C-tactile (CT) fibres. LÄS MER
5. Sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in nasal vascular regulation
Sammanfattning : The role of sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in vascular regulation was investigated in the pig nasal mucosa in vivo using arterial blood flow measurements and acoustic rhinometry for analysis of capacitance function. Moreover, the effects of heavy physical exercise, a-adrenoceptor agonists, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibition, L-arginine, nitric oxide (NO) gas, histamine and capsaicin on nasal cavity NO levels and nasal cavity volume, were investigated in healthy subjects.
