  1. 1. Transcriptional regulation of thyroid development possible interplay of endoderm- and mesoderm-derived morphogenetic signals

    Författare :Jessica Westerlund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :thyroid; congenital hypothyroidism; dysgenesis; Tbx1; Shh; Isl1; Foxa2; C-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) affects 1 in 3000 children and is the major cause of treatable mental retardation. Most cases are due to malformations of the gland, collectively named thyroid dysgenesis. The disease results from defective thyroid organogenesis during embryonic life. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influence of Ly49 inhibitory receptors and MHC class I on T cell and NK cell function

    Författare :Linda Öberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NK cell; T cell; Ly49; MHC class I;

    Sammanfattning : Natural Killer cells (NK) can kill virus infected cells and tumor cells but do not harm normal surrounding cells. The function of Ly49 receptors on NK cells is important in maintaining selftolerance since they transmit inhibitory signals when bound to endogenous MHC class I molecules. Their role in T cells is however unclear. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional role of cerebrospinal fluid contacting cells in the spinal cord and hypothalamus

    Författare :Elham Jalalvand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebrospinal fluid-contacting (CSF-c) cells are found lining the walls of the central canal and the ventricles throughout the vertebrate phylum, but their function has remained elusive. The aim here was to investigate the physiological role of CSF-c cells in the spinal cord and hypothalamus. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular regulation of thyroid development. New mechanisms of normal and defective morphogenesis

    Författare :Henrik Fagman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :thyroid; congenital hypothyroidism; thyroid dysgenesis; cadherins; pharyngeal arch arteries; Shh; Tbx1;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is untreated a major cause of mental retardation. The majority of cases are due to malformations of the gland (dysgenesis). Little is known of molecular mechanisms regulating thyroid morphogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Basic and translational studies of follicular thyroid neoplasia

    Författare :Theodoros Foukakis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Follicular thyroid cancer; follicular thyroid adenoma; PAX8-PPARgamma; PPARgamma; PTEN; RAS; RASSF1A; NORE1A; TERT; quantitative RT-PCR; microarray; cancer biomarker;

    Sammanfattning : Thyroid tumors occur frequently in the general population and although the majority represents benign follicular adenomas (FTA), thyroid cancer constitutes 1% of all malignancies worldwide. Among the differentiated cancers, three main types are recognized, including the papillary and follicular forms (PTC and FTC) that originate from the follicular thyrocytes, and the medullary carcinoma that arises from the C-cells.
