    Sammanfattning : This thesis is an investigation into how meta-heuristic multi-objective optimisation processes (genetic algorithms driven by evolutionary solvers) can bring about materials-related advantages in architectural performance. It redefines the architect’s and engineer’s role from being designers of a singular space or structure to being designers of entire species of spaces, and discusses a particular method – anticipatory adaptive assemblages (AAA) – that allows such processes to produce many generations of design iterations that eventually yield individuals optimised for a set of predefined objectives. 2. 2. Municipal street pavement maintenance and management practices in Sweden

    Författare :Muhammad Amjad Afridi; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Inge Hoff; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; municipalities; street maintenance; pavement management systems; questionnaire; pavement deterioration; cold climate; performance prediction models; machine learning; random forest; pavement condition index; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : A well-functioning street network is pivotal in the socio-economic development of a region. Street networks not only facilitate the movement of people and goods but also allocate space for utility services. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of Low Temperature Damage in Asphalt Mixtures with Non-Contact Resonance Testing

    Författare :Abiy Bekele; Denis Jelagin; William Buttlar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Asphalt concrete; dynamic modulus; non-contact excitation; resonance testing; thermally induced damage; viscoelasticity; Asfaltbetong; beröringsfri excitation; resonansfrekvens; resonansprovning; styvhetsmodul; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Thetemperature induceddamage in asphalt mixtureshas always been a major distress that requires a substantialconsiderationin the asphalt industry. One of the most important aspects of studying temperature induceddamage is developing a practical test method for evaluation of the material’s resistanceto it. LÄS MER

  4. 4. New Experimental and Modelling Tools for Multiscale Characterization of Asphalt Mastic

    Författare :Hassan Fadil; Denis Jelagin; Robert Ingemar Karlsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Asphalt mastics act as a binding phase in asphalt mixtures and their rheological properties strongly affect the performance of asphalt mixtures with respect to virtually all damage modes. In order to measure mastics properties, relevant for field performance, testing should be performed at size-scales representative for the morphology and material inhomogeneity of asphalt mixtures. 5. 5. Spherical Indentation Technique for Multiscale Characterisation of Asphalt Mixtures

    Författare :Hassan Fadil; Denis Jelagin; Manfred Partl; Per-Lennart Larsson; Said Safwat; Eshan Dave; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : The viscoelastic properties of asphalt  mixtures  strongly  influence the  performance of flexible pavements  with respect to  their resistance to several common distress modes. Therefore, accurate measurement of these properties and their change during the service life is an important area of ongoing research. LÄS MER
