    Författare :Kasra Khatami Mashhadi; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Anders F. Andersson; Maria Reis; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioaugmentation; Burkholderia cepacia; Cupriavidus necator; Mixed microbial cultures; Polyhydroxyalkanoates; Volatile fatty acids; Bioaugmentering; Burkholderia cepacia; Cupriavidus necator; Blandade mikrobiella kulturer; Polyhydroxyalkanoater; Flyktiga fettsyror; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Burgeoning concerns on the adverse environmental impacts of fossil-derived products are propelling the pursuit of material production from sustainable resources. Resource recovery from waste is a key component of meeting the environmental sustainability agendas set by the United Nations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational analysis of oligosaccharide conformations – methodological development, applied studies, and design of glycomimetics

    Författare :Francesco Strino; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histo-blood group antigens; Burkholderia cepacia; genetic algorithms; norovirus; selenoglycosides; sugar conformations; thioglycosides; saccharide conformations;

    Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are the most abundant class of biomolecules. Besides their roles as structural elements and energy storage, they are involved in signaling and recognition processes. Their functions and activities depend on their preferred conformations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Prediction of 3D structures of oligosaccharides. Methodological development and studies on saccharide antigens of interest for vaccine design

    Författare :Jimmy Rosen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Oligosaccharide; conformation; 3D structure; O-antigen; Shigella dysenteriae; Escherichia coli; Burkholderia cepacia; Schistosoma mansoni; filtered systematic search; genetic algorithm;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents 3D structure predictions of five immunologically active surfacepolysaccharides of pathogens, which are of interest as targets for development of glycoconjugatevaccines. Furthermore it describes two methods which have been used for theconformational predictionsThe Shigella dysenteriae type 2 Oantigenwas predicted to form a compact helicalstructure with three repeating pentasaccharide units per turn. 4. 4. Bacterial colonisation and infection of the lower airways in cystic fibrosis : a microbiological and clinical study

    Författare :Ferenc Karpati; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cystic fibrosis; sputum; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Stenotrophomonas maltophilia; Burkholderia cepacia; PCR; AP-PCR; 16S RNA gene; DNA sequencing; heterogeneity; TNF-[alpha]; IL-8; ibuprofen;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary deterioration has remained the major cause of mortality in cystic fibrosis (C17) patients despite the considerable improvement of their survival due to more efficient therapy and centralised care. The progression of the CF lung disease is correlated to inflection with a limited number of colonising bacterial species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Asymmetric transformation of ß- and γ-functionalized alcohols : Study of combined ruthenium-catalyzed racemization and enzymatic resolution

    Författare :Annika Träff; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Reko Leino; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kinetic resolution; dynamic kinetic resolution; kinetic asymmetric transformation; dynamic kinetic asymmetric transformation; enzyme catalysis; racemization; asymmetric synthesis; chlorohydrin; cyano acetate; amino alcohol; metalloenzyme; bifunctional catalytic system; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis describes the asymmetric synthesis of β- and γ-amino alcohols through the combination of ruthenium catalyzed racemization and enzymatic kinetic resolution. The dynamic kinetic resolution, DKR, protocol for chlorohydrins was improved by employing Bäckvall’s catalyst, which is a base activated racemization catalyst, in combination with Burkholderia cepacia lipase.
