    Sammanfattning : Under the peace treaty of Brömsebro in 1645 the largest island of the Baltic Sea, Gotland, became a part of the Swedish Kingdom. Until then it had been under Danish control, and since the late fifteenth century the Danish authorities had pursued the economic, judicial, administra-tive and ecclesiastical incorporation of the island. The goverment employees lacked the right to negotiate and sign agreements and to strike.     Sammanfattning : From the dissolution of Sweden’s Union with Norway in 1905 until the country’s membership in the European Union in 1995, diplomats in Sweden underwent a number of reforms that aimed to create a professionally recruited and capable cadre of civil servants, serving Swedish diplomacy.
