  1. 1. Lung Function, Respiratory Muscle Strength and Effects of Breathing Exercises in Cardiac Surgery Patients

    Författare :Charlotte Urell; Margareta Emtner; Elisabeth Westerdahl; Hans Hedenström; Agneta Ståhle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breathing exercises; Cardiac surgery; Deep breathing; Lung function; Oxygenation; Physical therapy; Positive expiratory pressure; Spirometry; Respiratory muscle strength; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Breathing exercises are widely used after cardiac surgery. The duration of exercises in the immediate postoperative period is not fully evaluated and only limited data regarding the effects of home-based breathing exercises after discharge from hospital have been published. 2. 2. Effects of Deep Breathing Exercises after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Författare :Elisabeth Westerdahl; Arne Tenling; Göran Hedenstierna; Birgitta Lindmark; Anders Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical therapy; atelectasis; breathing exercises; coronary artery bypass; computed tomography; physiotherapy; postoperative care; postoperative complications; respiratory function tests; thoracic surgery; Sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Deep breathing exercises are widely used in the postoperative care to prevent or reduce pulmonary complications, but no scientific evidence for the efficacy has been found after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. The aim of the thesis was to describe postoperative pulmonary function and to evaluate the efficacy of deep breathing exercises performed with or without a blow bottle device for positive expiratory pressure (PEP) 10 cmH2O or an inspiratory resistance-positive expiratory pressure (IR-PEP) mask with an inspiratory pressure of -5 cmH2O and an expiratory pressure of +10 to +15 cmH2O. 3. 3. Resistance breathing with PEP and CPAP : effects on respiratory parameters

    Författare :Maria Sehlin; Ola Winsö; Karin Wadell; Fredrik Öhberg; Monika Fagevik Olsèn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chest physiotherapy; breathing exercises; PEP; CPAP; airway pressure; airflow; threshold resistor; flow resistor; inspiratory capacity; Borg CR10;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Positive expiratory pressure (PEP) and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) are two forms of resistance breathing used in spontaneously breathing patients. With a threshold resistor or a flow resistor, both PEP and CPAP provide a positive (elevated) pressure level during the expiratory phase. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hatha yogic exercises for physical function in healthy individuals and patients with obstructive respiratory disorders

    Författare :Marian E Papp; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aim: The use of hatha yogic exercises (YE) is increasing, with both healthy individuals and patients asking for alternative treatments and other means of prevention and exercise. To investigate the physical effects and experiences of practicing YE among different groups thus seem important. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Improving quality of life using mind-body therapies : the evaluation of a course intervention for personal self-awareness and development

    Författare :Lotta Fernros; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Breathing exercises; complementary therapies; health promotion; holistic health; imagery; meditation; mind-body relations; movement- and psychophysiology; qi; quality of life; questionnaires;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this research project was to conduct a research project in complementary alternative medicine (CAM), and to evaluate an unusual course method. Since 1985 a special training centre, founded by Bengt Stern at Vikbolandet outside Norrköping, has been holding courses in personal development, Meet Yourself stage 1 . LÄS MER
