  1. 1. Survival of onlay bone grafts. A study in the adult rat

    Författare :Monica Gordh; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; polytetrafluoroethylene; artificial; membrane; immunohistochemistry; cortical perforations; bone morphogenetic protein; bone marrow; bone; bone grafts; Odontologi; stomatology; Odontology; skull; tibia;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study onlay bone grafting in the adult rat to improve graft incorporation and perservation of graft size. In 167 adult isogeneic lewis rats, the size maintenance and bone formation at the graft-host interface of uni- and bicortical onlays positioned in various environments and treatments were investigated. 2. 2. Human embryonic stem cells for bone engineering applications

    Författare :Giuseppe Maria de Peppo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human skeleton; bone; bone defects; bone regeneration; regenerative medicine; tissue engineering; biomaterials; scaffold; biocoral; titanium; osseointegration bioreactor; human stem cells; embryonic stem cells; mesenchymal stem cells; embryonic-derived progenitors; osteogenic differentiation; mineralization; immune response; in vitro; in vivo;

    Sammanfattning : The human skeleton represents the supporting structure of the organism and accounts for about 20 percent of the total body mass. Despite its intrinsic capacity to regenerate and self-repair, this ability is limited and repair therapies are needed in a large number of clinical cases. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bone Enhancement with BMP-2 for Safe Clinical Translation

    Författare :Marta Kisiel; Jöns Hilborn; Monica Wiig; Richard Oreffo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone repair; Bone healing; Bone morhogenetic protein-2; Osteogenesis; Extracelular matrix; Hyaluronan; Animal model; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is considered a promising adjuvant for the treatment of bone regeneration. However, BMP-2 delivery in a conventional collagen scaffold needs a high dose to achieve an effective outcome. Moreover, such dosage may lead to serious side effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Anabolic - Anti-catabolic Paradigm of Augmenting Skeletal Regeneration: A Bone Quality Perspective

    Författare :Neashan Mathavan; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone fracture; Fracture healing; bone quality; Bone biomechanics; bone morphogenetic protein-7; Zoledronate; skeletal regeneration;

    Sammanfattning : Successful fracture repair is a complex series of coordinated processes leading to regeneration of new bone to bridge the fracture site, remodelling of the newly formed bone and restoration of skeletal function. Disruption of these processes occurs in approximately 10% of all fractures and leads to delayed or failed healing requiring surgical interventions, increased complication rates, prolonged rehabilitation and high morbidity. 5. 5. The effects of cyclosporin A on bone turnover and repair

    Författare :Anders Ekelund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Cyclosporin A; osteoinduction; osteoconduction; bone turnover; fracture healing; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of cyclosporin A on bone metabolism are unclear and controversial. The aims of this thesis were to study the effects of cyclosporin A on bone turnover and on different repair processes such as fracture healing, osteoinduction and osteoconduction. LÄS MER
