  1. 1. Understanding the adaptive capacity of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris across native and novel environments

    Författare :Cecilia Hjort; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bumblebees; Bombus terrestris; Pollination; Introgression; Single nucleotide polymorphisms; Whole Genome Sequencing; Landscape simplification; Gene flow; Morphology; Environmental variation; Invasion; Local adaptation; Island;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic stressors such as agricultural intensification, climate change, andincreased densities of non-native managed bees used for crop pollination arecontributing to bee declines. Understanding how and why bees have responded topast environmental changes is crucial for predicting future ones and enablingmitigation to maintain the functioning of both natural and agricultural ecosystems. 2. 2. Go with the flow : visually mediated flight control in bumblebees

    Författare :Nellie Linander; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight; Insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight;

    Sammanfattning : Despite their small brains and tiny eyes, flying insects are capable of detecting and avoiding collisions with moving obstacles, and with remarkable precision they navigate through environments of different complexity. For this thesis, I have investigated how bumblebees use the pattern of apparent image motion that is generated in their eyes as they move through the world (known as optic flow), in order to control flight. 3. 3. How the sensory ecology of the bumblebee affects their functional traits

    Författare :Vun Wen Jie; Emily Baird; Mikael Carlsson; Martin How; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bumblebee; functional morphological traits; intraspecific differences; allometry; DRA; micro-CT; co-existence; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : Morphological traits are important for trait-based ecological studies as they allow for the prediction of biodiversity across the biosphere. Currently, the predictive power of trait-based ecology is not often applied to terrestrial arthropods, even though they provide us with important agricultural, ecological, and cultural value. 4. 4. The sensory morphology of insect pollinators : From structure to behaviour and ecology

    Författare :Zahra Moradinour; Emily Baird; Karl Gotthard; Karin Nordstrom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Insect pollinators; butterfly; bumblebee; sensory system; developmental temperature; light habitat; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insect pollinators play an important role in balancing our ecosystems and maintaining plant and food diversity. Due to anthropogenic activities such as global warming, habitat loss and degradation, pesticides, and pathogens, many pollinator populations have been undergoing drastic declines in recent decades. 5. 5. Spatial Vision in Bees : Behavioural investigation of spatial resolution and contrast sensitivity

    Författare :Aravin Chakravarthi; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :Insect vision; Honeybees; Bumblebees; Spatial resolution; Contrast sensitivity; Motion detection; Object discrimination;

    Sammanfattning : Bees use multiple sensory modalities to perform day-to-day tasks. Light allows them to perceive objects and the general features of their surroundings, enabling them to find food and to navigate safely across the landscape. LÄS MER
